The history of Tolo goes back centuries. During the Venetian era, the bay was known as "Porto di Tolon" and served as a safe harbor. In modern times, the village was established by families from Crete who arrived in the early 1800s after the Greek War of Independence. Their customs, dialect, and way of life shaped the village, and many of their traditions continue today. Fishermen still bring in their daily catch, and small family-run tavernas serve simple, fresh dishes that reflect their way of life.
Its location makes Tolo an excellent base for exploring the wider Argolida region. Ancient sites like Mycenae, Epidaurus, and Tiryns are all within reach, while Nafplio offers shopping, culture, and nightlife just a short drive away. Yet many choose to stay in Tolo, enjoying the beach, taking a boat trip to nearby islets like Romvi and Koronisi, or simply relaxing at a café with a view of the sea!
